to think that london got into the race only at the eleventh hour. and to think that the lump-in-the-throat/tear-in-the-eye inducing london video was done by an amateur or three.
and to think that misguided wee islander's were backing paris for the bid.
now if rugby is included for 2012, i must make plans to make my way there. and by then i'll be 44 years old.
gasp!
as enscribed by the letter b @ July 6, 2005 02:50 PM | someone's pingedsorry to hear, but doctors here are not dissimilar. my mum was misdiagnosed for gastritis for donkey's years. and only until last year that she was advised to go for a proper scan that she discovered she had gall stones after all. and they were huge, em stones. who's to blame, gp's for not making a proper correct diagnosis? or the cultural attitude of people here for not wanting to tell exactly what's wrong with them coupled with not possessing an enquiring probing mentality?
back to the olympics topic, are the athenians sport enthusiasts in the first place or were they completely sold by the politics bollocks? but look at what the olympics had done to barcelona. then again, if only i know exactly what it's like to be properly involved in matters like this. 'cos i've been made rather complacent and sheep like by the system ere.
as blahed by the letter b @ July 7, 2005 03:55 PMI think there are mor enoble things to spend the country's money on, sports are just a placebo for the ignorant masses, and the Ancient Greeks bloody well knew that when they set up the olympics.
The whole regeneraion thing is a farce, see how much the venues in Athens are being used now? Not at all!
As for the NHS, I'm going to laugh my socks off when some olympic contender gets hurt and has to go to hospital. I recently had gallstones, and 4 NHS doctors in a row told me it was just "indegestion", went private and had my gallbladder removed the following friday. If I wasn't such a socialist I'd sue the NHS.
as blahed by Miles @ July 7, 2005 09:50 AMhow about the long term prospects for the country? why not allowing those anti-english ignoramuses realise what london and the whole of UK could offer. pardon my ignorance as i don't live in the UK, but at least it brings something to those who live in the east end also innit? yeah, but so what? what about the NHS, army and so on? im sure those issues would not be completely solved. not even in 10 or 15 years time. or even during our lifetime. unless someone or a group of people who really care, stand up and DO IT. not sitting there and whinge. and then wait for someone else to do the job.
im bloody chuffed not because i buy the whole olympics baloney. it's because i love london. yeah, lame that. no, i'm a fuckin anglophile, that's more like it!
as blahed by the letter b @ July 7, 2005 07:56 AMYay, pointless bloody sport, my tax money down the drain as the NHS bleeds to death, our armed forces shrink and we make students pay to increase the academic status of our miserable island!
Anything else we'd like to waste money on lads? An olympic dome? Africa?
I need a drink...
as blahed by Miles @ July 6, 2005 11:09 PMmy, are they not sore losers insisting there wasn't any logic to the conclusion. must be the air they were breathing.
as blahed by the letter b @ July 6, 2005 06:04 PMMuch rejoicing over here. I bet the frogs must be really pissed off.
Altogether now.....AAAhhhhhhhhh.
