empathy

a heartrendin article by a retired japanese who bemoaned about the complete ignorance of his countrymen on the atrocities committed by their forefather's.

and the difficult position he's in for simply being a jap:

It is no easy task for me, the son of an officer of the Imperial Army, to speak critically and in public of the Pacific War.

It must be awfully painful to admit that your husband, father, brother or son died in a war that cannot be ethically defended.

war is but an excuse for an ego trip.

well Jerome, about that war in iraq, i'm sure arguments for and against will go on in circles that will never end. what i can say is the situation is spiralling out of control and to say that it is none of any western power's business to get involved, those in the pro camp would come up with proofs to the contrary.

anyways, a belated welcome to this lovely blog, much appreciate your views :)

As for "dying in a war that cannot be ethically defended", this has a familiar ring to it regarding Amerikkka's illegal war in Iraq, so obviously being waged to control Iraq's immense oil resources rather than the laughable crap about "spreading peace and freedom" with cluster bombs and bringing "democracy" to the Middle East. Anyone with more than a fifth-grade education should be able to figure that one out.

I keep thinking of all the terrified (dead) souls out there still wandering around trying to grasp what happened to them.

i reckon i'd be too if i were there. the most scary bit has got to be at this particular ex workplace which was the same cinema complex where the japs used as their HQ back then. given my rather ultra sensitive nature, i felt a certain discomfort throughout my time there - less than 3 months!

Funny you should post this. All I could think of when we got to the Brussels train station was whether or not this station had seen the cattle cars that transported the Jews to the concentration camp. Really bothered me.
