a timely reminder

12th september -

1. exactly 60 year's ago the evil jap's decided to surrender after occupyin the wee isle for 3 years and 7 month's. thereabouts.

wonder what took em so long to do so when VJ day was declared on 15th august. see, the islet is so wee that the news escaped em. what is utterly shameful is nothing much has been done over ere to remember all those POW's, armed forces veteran's [a large number of whom were aussie and kiwi], and wee islanders who defended and died for this islet.

2. england win the ashes after 16 yonk's and x months. need i say more?

3. exactly 37 yonk's ago, the letter b was born - ok, enough's been said.

so there.

many thanks for your wishes, Alice and Krip.

Alice - yeah, they could have been hidden deep in the jungles, what with the thick canopy et al, that radio signals couldn't even be received. i'd like to speculate that their translator wasn't around that day also.

Krip - i think the UK ought to learn a thing or two from the aussies especially where the veterans are treated with respect and honour. even the demolition of changi prison saw the aussie govt requested that the front gates be dismantled and shipped to oz. a local woman [a heroine who disguised herself as a cook at the prison, sneaked in some herbal medicine to treat the POW's injuries] was awarded the highest distinction medal and granted aussie citizenship, that i think she thoroughly deserved.

shame on both the wee island and UK govt's eh.

Not a lot is done over on the mother ship about all those poor bloody POW's. I think it is shameful and it is no wonder that they are called the 'Forgotten Army'.

p.s. Boy was Krip a happy camper when he went to bed last night cause England won the Ashes and he got to watch his footie team (West Ham) win their game 4-0.

Well, HAPPY BIRTHDAY letter b!!! Hope you have a great day today, and celebrate a wee bit tonight.

As for the Japs, they must have been too busy hiding in the jungle to realize that VJ Day had been announced. Perhaps just a bit slow on the uptake.
