Lesson #2: How to speak like a scot
whenever Alex Ferguson comes on the telly, turn up the volume to full. and at the same time, lip read.
if all else fails, try to catch the scottish premier league on the telly. especially the old firm clash. which is the only one available in these parts anyways.
a word of caution though: don't attempt aberdeenian if ye haven't grasped enough glaswegian.
----------------------------------------------
addendum: just reminded by DW, how could i forget to add wee Gordie Strachan and Graeme Souness?
Thanks. :)
Obviously you have not taken the wee island's trains recently. The potent combination of Mediacorpse 8's Patricia, Jack and Mark can blast your English grammar back to the Stone Ages.
If I had my way, all wee islanders will ever get to hear on the trains will be the Beeb World Service, 24-7. You won't even need to spend millions on those blasted "Speak English Campaign" commercials and at the same time, you can help nuture a whole host of potential "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" contestant-wannabes at the same time.
And I believe an ah lian who speaks perfect English technically exists. I am a dreamer, yes. :P
as blahed by D W @ May 12, 2004 08:07 AMgoodness gracious me. for conveniently forgetting both the scottish gaffers' you listed and that bit of grammatical error.
nay, your not being a prick. and i really appreciate your correcting me :) this means it's about time i leave this workplace as that chow ah lian sitting behind me doesn't help matters. you know how *loud* they can be right, in addition to their atrocious english? and i'm beginning to pronounce the word "sad" as "sack".
she kept uttering "so sack.." thrice in a row. damn chow ah lian.
as blahed by the letter b @ May 12, 2004 07:16 AMGordie Strachan is no longer with the Saints so we will not get to hear him very often now. Not sure if his replacement, Paul Sturrock is Scottish. Can anyone confirm? :P
Add David Moyes (Everton's gaffer) to the list as well. :) He's Scottish. Not forgetting the football pundit on Sky Sports 1 - Andy Gray. His Scottish accent is unmistakable.
And being a little bit of a prick here:
"...how could i forgot to add..."
Er... shouldn't it be "how could I forget to add..."?
No offence, ok? :)
oh dear. i completely forgot to mention them scottish gaffer's. ta for the jolt D :)
as blahed by the letter b @ May 12, 2004 06:15 AMOr listen to the BBC World Service's coverage of the SPL. :)
Or listen to any of the EPL Scottish gaffers when they are being interviewed.
